What is Prompt Library?
A shared collection of prompts and examples that work, so a team doesn't start from zero every time.
A prompt library is simply a well-organised collection of prompts that have proven useful: the instructions, a few good examples, notes on which tool or model they work best with, and what to check in the output. It can live in a shared document, a wiki or a custom assistant.
The best libraries are small and maintained, a few dozen prompts for the tasks people actually repeat, rather than hundreds of copied templates from the internet.
Why it matters for you
A prompt library spreads what your best AI users already know across the team. It is one of the cheapest ways to raise AI literacy and quality at the same time.
Own it
Your prompts encode how your company works: your standards, formats and judgement. Store them in your own knowledge base, in plain text, so they move with you to any tool.
Where it comes from
There is no single inventor; teams have always kept templates and checklists. One early landmark was Awesome ChatGPT Prompts, an open collection started by Fatih Kadir Akın in December 2022 that grew into one of GitHub's most popular repositories. Since then, many AI tools have added built-in ways to save and share prompts across a team.
